Background:
Art has always been a powerful medium for expression and exploration of emotions. It is for this reason that World Art Day is celebrated every year on 15th April to promote art and culture. Also, on this day, work is done to raise awareness about various arts among the general public.
For the first time, World Art Day was celebrated on 15 April 2012. In 2015, the day was officially celebrated in Los Angeles. World Art Day is a day dedicated by UNESCO which was announced in 2019 at the 40th session of the General Assembly of UNESCO.
Why April15?
15 April 1452 is the birth anniversary of the great Italian painter Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci was a great Italian painter, sculptor, architect, musician, skilled mechanic, engineer and scientist. He was respected all over the world for his mastery of art and today is his birth anniversary as World Art
Day is being celebrated.
Theme 2025
World Art Day provides an opportunity to affirm the role of the visual arts in our world. The theme in 2025 is “A Garden of Expression: Cultivating Community through Art.”
